IND vs NZ: Washington Sundar and Akash Deep Step In for Kuldeep Yadav and Siraj in Pune Test

India has made significant changes to their lineup for the second Test against New Zealand in Pune after facing a defeat in the first match. Washington Sundar, Akash Deep, and Shubman Gill have been brought into the playing XI, replacing Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, and KL Rahul. The move comes as India looks to bounce back in the three-match series, which they trail 1-0 after losing the first Test by eight wickets.

Both Siraj and Rahul faced criticism for underwhelming performances in the opening match, while Kuldeep Yadav, despite his solid efforts in previous matches, has been left out once again. Washington Sundar, who made his memorable debut during the Gabba Test against Australia in 2021, has returned to the team after a long hiatus, having last played in the Ahmedabad Test against England in March 2021. Sundar is known for his all-round abilities, and his inclusion will strengthen India's batting depth as well as their spin options.

Akash Deep, who has featured in three Tests and picked up eight wickets, is also making a return to the team after missing the first Test. He had played against Bangladesh in his previous appearances but was left out for the first Test against New Zealand. His pace and potential will be crucial as India tries to level the series.

Shubman Gill, who has been a consistent performer at the top of the order, replaces KL Rahul, who struggled in the first Test. Gill's inclusion adds solidity to the batting lineup, with India needing a strong start after a disappointing first match in Bengaluru.

On the New Zealand side, fast bowler Matt Henry has been ruled out due to a minor injury. Mitchell Santner has been brought in as a replacement, giving the Kiwis a strong spin option to accompany their already impressive bowling attack. Santner also adds to their batting strength, providing balance to the team as they aim to clinch the series.

India's team for the second Test includes Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma (captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Sarfaraz Khan, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Akash Deep, and Jasprit Bumrah.

New Zealand’s lineup for this match features Tom Latham (captain), Devon Conway, Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Blundell (wicketkeeper), Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Ajaz Patel, and William O’Rourke.

After losing the first Test at home to New Zealand for the first time in 36 years, India is determined to fight back in Pune and even out the series. The changes made to their lineup reflect a strategic shift, with Sundar and Akash Deep expected to play pivotal roles in the bowling attack, while Gill’s addition is aimed at stabilizing the top order.

The stage is set for an intense second Test, with both teams vying for crucial victories in this highly competitive series.
